
FIU Research Center in Minority Institutions (FIU-RCMI)
The Research Center in Minority Institutions (RCMI) at Florida International University in Miami-Dade focuses on three core scientific areas: basic biomedical research, behavioral and population science, and clinical/health services research.
Overarching goals of our Center include:
- Enhancing institutional research capacity
- Increasing investigator success in obtaining competitive extramural research support
- Fostering an environment conducive to career development for early-stage investigators (ESIs)
- Disseminating research generally and specifically for advancing public health
- Establishing sustainable relationships with community-based organizations
FIU-RCMI investigators have conducted research on a wide range of topics, including substance use problems, mental health, Alzheimer’s Disease, sleep hygiene, the microbiome, and pediatric cancer. While conducting this research, FIU-RCMI Investigators work with community partners to ensure our efforts promote health across the communities of South Florida.
