Piano Slam Evaluation

The Ware Foundation has awarded FIU-CBRI, under the leadership of Dr Michelle Hospital, grant funds for a 3-year study entitled “The Transformative Experience of Youth Engaging with Music:  An Evaluation of the PIANO SLAM Program.”1 This study represents a collaboration between FIU-CBRI and the Murray Dranoff 2 Piano Foundation2 (AWD000000007872). The PIANO SLAM program has worked with Miami-Dade County Public School (M-DCPS) middle and high schools since 2009 to provide a transformational pedagogical experience integrating music, language arts, and science. The primary aims of this evaluation are to (1) identify PIANO SLAM’s successes and challenges, (2) review and document PIANO SLAM’s impact, and (3) identify opportunities for maximizing program effectiveness.
